If the current level of emissions persists, there is a 50 per cent chance that global warming of 1.5 degrees Celsius will be exceeded in nine years, the opposite trend needed to reverse climate change. Transport accounts for around one-fifth of global CO₂ emissions.
Suppose we don’t reduce carbon emissions. We will leave a legacy of extreme weather, poor air quality, less water in our rivers and streams, increased plant and animal extinctions, and unnecessary costs to future generations. If we are to begin to address the most significant impacts of climate disruption, we must act now. To do otherwise is irresponsible.
Road travel accounts for three-quarters of transport emissions. Most of this comes from passenger vehicles – cars and buses – which contribute 45.1%. The other 29.4% comes from trucks carrying freight. Every day, all around the world, people depend on transportation, energy, and technology to live and work. Rapid growth in electrification, an energy transition driven by climate change and explosive growth in connectivity force us to look at alternatives that can make a difference.
Ducere Holdings (Pty) Ltd., launched in March 2004, is a solely owned South African company, delivering multiple solutions and ground-breaking patented designs from its subsidiary MISER® Hybrid Technologies, specialising in the efficient use of energy through the development of energy-recovery and deployment technologies. Affiliated to Innovate UK, Miser works closely with Mintek and the University of Johannesburg in South Africa, upskilling future engineers.
“We are uniquely positioned to solve the world’s toughest electrical, hydraulic and mechanical power management challenges with more than 100 years of experience in vehicle development, tuning and calibration coupled with our engineering expertise,”’ says Andre Reyneke, Managing Director, Miser
With the key purpose of saving fuel and reducing emissions, the new, affordable, more efficient hybrid propulsion system has been launched to reshape the way the world seeks green transport. Creating power from various propulsion methods, from gasoline and diesel engines to battery electric and fuel cells, Miser provides differentiated solutions that improve the efficiency of the next generation of automobiles and commercial vehicles.
Engine optimisation is at the forefront of this scalable yet inherently efficient system which lends itself to utilities through regenerative breaking using energy and the world-renowned Pi-Innova control system. The MISER® products will dramatically reduce fleet operating costs, using technology that offers a range of environmental benefits. Savings on fuel and a significant reduction in carbon emissions are now possible thanks to this range of homegrown solutions.
The only one of its kind, the MISER® technology is a revolutionary new approach to kinetic energy recovery, engine optimisation, energy storage and re-application for any vehicle. The system complements various other technologies to dramatically improve fuel consumption, vehicle performance and total cost of ownership – while simultaneously reducing the emission of environmentally harmful gasses.
Fundamentally, the patented MISER® technology enables more efficient energy recovery and engine optimisation than any competing technology. MISER® achieves this with a patented hydraulic solution and proprietary transmission, using a combination of breaking-energy recovery, engine optimisation and various modes (such as torque summing, regenerative braking, and launch assist). This provides an efficient mechanism for the fast storage and release of energy while simultaneously optimising engine performance by keeping the engine operating on the ideal Brake Specific Fuel Consumption line.
The global commercial vehicle market is projected to grow from $955.57 billion in 2022 to $1,712.44 billion by 2029, at a CAGR of 8.7% in the forecast period.
In line with our vision to leverage the capabilities of the internationally patented MISER® Technology to significantly reduce the harmful gas emissions on millions of existing trucks on the roads today, Miser is working closely with fleet owners and specialist heavy-vehicle designers and manufacturers to this effect. Considering the incentives and regulations, one can deduce that a significant market with tremendous opportunities is on the rise for those who take the world-destroying carbon emission struggle we are living through, seriously
