The Miser hydraulic-hybrid transmission has been tested and proven at the Gerotek Test Facility. This paper presents the initial results of test runs of the first version of Miser. The technology was developed for a heavy-duty truck as an engine-optimising and regenerative-braking transmission that can be retrofitted to most heavy trucks. It uses a novel hydraulic pump/motor system to harvest and store brake energy in accumulators. The paper highlights the savings achieved from a set of drive cycles during the first tests. An extract of some of the results achieved on the test track is presented to show what the test vehicle achieved.
